Neither of my parents attended college, and college itself was not something our family believed in or understood. At 17, I navigated the admissions process almost entirely on my own, and made plenty of mistakes. I did not know which deadlines actually mattered, how to write an essay that still sounded like me, or even how to ask for help without feeling like a burden. I transferred schools partway through undergrad, learning the hard way just how much the process rewards insider knowledge that most families simply do not have access to. What stayed with me was not the confusion, it was the loneliness: wanting someone in my corner and not knowing where to find them. That feeling is why I became a counselor, and it is the heartbeat of WaveScholar.

That experience led me to a master's degree in school counseling, and into high schools, where I worked directly with students on their college applications. It did not take long to see the gap clearly: students without the resources to hire a private consultant were often left with a school counselor stretched too thin to give them the individualized guidance they needed. The support existed. It just was not enough.

In 2016, I became an Independent Educational Consultant to close that gap directly. For over ten years, I have specialized in UC and CSU admissions alongside highly selective T-20 and Ivy League placement, building the kind of granular, school-by-school expertise that comes only from doing this work year after year.
